Historic Night From Steven Stamkos Leads Lightning To Win In Vancouver

The Tampa Bay Lightning (29-13-1) defeated the Vancouver Canucks (18-23-3) 5-2 on Wednesday night in Vancouver.

It was a historic night for team captain Steven Stamkos. 4:40 into the first period he scored his first goal (assisted by Alex Killorn) that was the 500th goal for his remarkable career. Both his Lightning teammates and the Canucks took a moment to recognize the accomplishment.

Tampa Bay did not stop there. Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point both scored later in the first before Stamkos scored his second of the night to give the Bolts a 4-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Vancouver pushed back with two goals in the third to pull within 4-2, but Stamkos came through again. At the 18:38 mark of the third he scored his third goal of the night to secure a hat trick and clinch Tampa Bay's 5-2 win over the Canucks.

The Bolts now head to Edmonton for the second game of a back-to-back on Thursday night. Puck drop between the Lightning and Oilers is scheduled for 9:00 PM on Thursday night in Edmonton.
