Lightning Shut Out Islanders To Clinch Playoff Berth

The Tampa Bay Lightning (45-26-6) shut out the New York Islanders (39-29-9) 5-0 on Saturday night at Amalie Arena. The win clinches a playoff berth for Tampa Bay for the sixth straight season, and clinched a matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 38 saves in the shutout, his second shutout in three nights. Of the last 100 shots he has faced, he has only allowed one goal.

After Mikhail Sergachev scored late in the first period, Tanner Jeannot scored his first goal with the Lightning early in the second period to make it 2-0. Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos both scored later in the second period to make it 4-0, before Brayden Point scored on the power play in the third to make it 5-0.

The Lightning are now off until Wednesday when they wil travel to New York for a back-to-back against the Rangers and Islanders. It begins Wednesday night when the Rangers host Tampa Bay at Madison Square Garden - puck drop in that game is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
