Several Florida Cities Among The Best For Staycations Despite Closures

While travel is expected to be extremely low compared to any other Memorial Day weekend, some Floridians may drive just a little bit for a vacation.

"In Florida, I would see some more traveling in state. In a lot of other states I think people are really staying put."

WalletHub analyst Jill Gonzalez says Florida has a number of entries in their latest "Best Cities for Staycations" rankings.

Tampa is number three in the nation, with Orlando at number 10.

That city might top the list in most years...but not during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gonzalez says it's because Disney, Universal and the like are closed.

"On a typical year that would be a metric that we would include here but this year there wasn't any point to even include it."

Tallahassee, Fort Lauderdale and St. Pete are also in the Top 20 of this list that looked at things like available parks, walking trails, restaurants open for dine-in and restrictions in place for COVID-19.

Plano, Texas is the number 1 Best City for Staycations this Memorial Day weekend.
