None of Florida's GOP House members were among the ten that voted with Democrats Wednesday.
Prior to the vote in the House to impeach President Trump for a second time, South Florida Republican Brian Mast used his time to ask if any of the Capitol rioters were asked for their motivation.
He waited nearly 30 seconds for a response and heard mostly silence from the gallery, along with a few shouts of "no." Then, Mast yielded the rest of his time.
The Congressman took to Fox and Friends on Thursday morning to explain his message.
"Nobody can say that they spoke to one of those individuals, and that's gotta be the most dangerous precedent for this body to set."
He says it goes against our democracy to hold the president accountable for inciting a mob without conducting any questioning.
Mast lost both of his legs in an IED explosion in Afghanistan.
While covering the impeachment vote, CNN's Jake Tapper noted that Mast fought for democracy abroad, but said he didn't know about Mast's commitment to it here in the U.S.
"My commitment to democracy to my country is unwavering. I love this place so much it literally breaks my heart to see the divide that exists in it."
The representative also commented on that.
"It's worth getting to the bottom of before you rush to judgement and that's the foundation of democracy. Hold me to a high standard, don't hold me to a double standard."
