Superintendent Asks Governor To Allow Teachers COVID-19 Vaccine

The Palm Beach County School Board has gotten together for the first time this year, and discussed COVID-19 vaccinations for teachers.

Superintendent Dr. Donald Fennoy announced during Wednesday's meeting that he sent a letter this week to Governor Ron DeSantis, asking him to make the vaccine available to school district employees.

Board Member Barbara McQuinn said she can't believe that hasn't happened already.

"It simply defies all logic that our governor has not made our employees with direct student contact a priority."

But DeSantis has made it clear that seniors, ages 65 and older, are the priority.

Dr. Fennoy's letter states that allowing teachers to be immunized for the coronavirus will allow schools to remain open and ensure continuous operation.

The Superintendent says he understands what the main problem is when it comes to the vaccine.

"To be perfectly honest with you, the biggest issue is just the supply chain. That is the issue."

Some board members brought up the importance of having school bus drivers be among those who get priority for the vaccine when the time comes, because of their contact with children.
