A warning from the Martin County Sheriff...lock your vehicle's doors and don't leave your firearms inside.
A reverse 911 went out to residents after six guns were stolen from unlocked cars during the first 12 days of the year.
Sheriff William Snyder says there is an alarming increase in auto burglaries on the Treasure Coast with detectives tracking what they call an unprecedented spike in gun thefts from vehicles left unlocked.
Five of the guns stolen this year were taken from cars in Palm City and the sixth was stolen in Jensen Beach.
This is not a problem isolated to the Treasure Coast, as leaders of several Palm Beach County law enforcement agencies in the past have cited this crime as happening in their communities.
