The Department of Environmental Protection and FDOT are on the scene of a massive fuel tanker fire on Florida's Turnpike.

There were reports of an explosion after the tanker crashed in the northbound lanes near Boynton Beach on Friday morning.

The driver was able to escape without injuries but the semi was carrying around a thousand gallons of diesel fuel and 7,500 gallons of gasoline and the fuel spilled all over both sides of the Turnpike.

All lanes were shut down in both directions between Boynton Beach Boulevard and Lake Worth Road as the flames continued to burn while crews worked to put them out.

The accident happened near Hypoluxo Road around 6 a.m. and it took hours before the lanes reopened.
