Pembroke Pines, FL - Authorities in Pembroke Park are investigating an incident involving the alleged vandalism of a police decoy vehicle during a large, unauthorized gathering of ATV and dirt bike riders over the weekend.
The incident occurred Sunday afternoon at a RaceTrac gas station located on Pembroke Road, where an estimated 90 to 150 riders had gathered.
According to law enforcement, three individuals climbed onto a parked Pembroke Park Police decoy cruiser during the commotion, with one of them allegedly kicking the windshield and shattering it.
The damage to the vehicle is estimated at approximately $1,000.
The cruiser was unoccupied and part of a strategic law enforcement effort to deter criminal activity in the area.
Prior to the gas station stop, officials say the group had been participating in illegal street takeovers throughout South Florida, reportedly ignoring traffic signals, running red lights, and disrupting intersections.
Authorities describe the behavior as reckless and dangerous.
“These groups don’t obey traffic laws and take over public roads without warning,” said Deputy Chief Jason Ochoa of the Pembroke Park Police Department.
“They’re putting lives at risk, and we’re not going to tolerate it.”
Police say they are reviewing surveillance video and collecting evidence, including fingerprints from the cruiser, to identify those responsible.
Charges may include felony criminal mischief and various traffic violations.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Pembroke Park Police or submit an anonymous tip to Broward County Crime Stoppers.
